After one easy day/night in Pushkar, it was off to Udaipur, the city of lakes, founded by Udai Singh in the 1500s. Oh yeah – the lakes are man made as the Thar desert isn’t far away….That being said, the lakes are beautiful and our hotel was lit ( this is my 13 y.o word for ‘cool’). There was a corporate event there that night and we ‘shazamed’ some very ‘interesting’ Indian dance music – look out the next t8 e you see me….
The City Palace
Started in the 1500s by Udai when Udaipur was the capital city of the Mewar empire, the palace was added to for 400 more years – it’s bloody huge! Parts of the palace were used as a hotel in the Bond film Octopussy. Again the royal family lives in part of it and we actually saw the prince in T shirt and jeans in a coffee shop – the Indians seem a little over the ‘born into nobility ‘ idea.
After the palace we checked out the Jagdish Temple. India has about 33 million gods and they believe in karma and reincarnation. I learned that many gods are actually reincarnations of other gods too. So Jagdish is a reincarnation of Krishna
Jag Mandir Island Palace
That evening we took a boat cruise to this island palace on Lake Pichola – pretty sweet! We could choose our and it was well worth it!
