Last night in Discovery Bay

So this is what 10 years in one apartment looks like….

Tonight is my last night in the apartment in Discovery Bay.  I was with the movers all day and tomorrow they come to take it all away to storage 200 units (boxes, bikes, tables, beds etc).  I sit among the boxes and the dust while M.C. and the kids are at an airport hotel.  I will join tomorrow.   This will wrap up 15 years in Hong Kong.  Will we come back?  Who knows so our move and storage company, Trade Winds https://tradewindstransport.com has packed for international shipping should we not return to the Fragrant Harbour.

M.C. and I have given our kids something we never had.  Their childhood in one place.  All three girls only know this apartment.  They are handling it like troopers but they are leaving all they know for the next 12-13 months with uncertainty as to where we end our adventure….if we end it!   Up until I lived for 5years in my own house in Ottawa, Canada, I had moved every 2-3 years thru Ontario and Quebec as well as Belgium and Germany, as my dad was military.  Marie- Christine had a similar life living in Canada, England and mostly Switzerland.

We have loved this apartment and our neighbourhood of Upper Caperidge for a decade.  Many of our neighbours have been here for most of that time too.  An international street with at least 25 countries represented – so good for our kids to get so many different world views.

Being alone tonight is a rarity and will probably be the only time for the next year or so.  It echos in here…..

Thanx Andrea! It has been a learning experience for us all so far. Being together 24 hours a day is not always easy but with time we will find our groove! Mongolia is done and we are halfway thru our Beijing visit. Saw Tianamen Square and Forbidden City today and off to the Great Wall tomorrow.
