Mutianyu – The Great Wall

Beautiful day for the Wall

Always a tough decision is where on the Great Wall to visit.  The closer to town, the more of a zoo.  The farther away then the more expensive and the longer transit time.  At the end of the day we chose Mutianyu because it had a slide for the descent!  It was a medium distance from town and we left early so got there at a reasonable time to avoid massive crowds and heat.  Last time I was at the Wall was winter 2003 and we met some farmers who took us up by horseback….this time we got a chairlift.

Kaia and Willow
I hate heights and things that are built poorly so Skye trying to cheer me up on chinese made chairlift.
A little busy but not too bad all things considered

Crowd did thin out a bit
A bit of solitude…very rare
A moments contemplation
Shocking to see blue skies near Beijing.

A quiet moment
The slide to descend from the wall – the kids ( of all ages) loved it.
It had great banked walls like the old bobsled tracks.

Catching up.

Overall a great day at the Wall and all our major Beijing sites checked off.

    Hello Everyone,
This is Merlin’s mum, Willow’s friend. We follow your blog with excitement and we love to see your tour. Merlin & Camille went as well to Mutianyu, 2 years ago, and really enjoyed the slide!
The mum did not like the Chinese built chairlift as well :).
Keep posting, we love to see your adventures!
All the best from quiet Brittany.
    Valentine
